Tutoring Reimagined
What I offer:
My specialty is designing individualized academic skills courses for students in middle and high school
Why a course rather than "just tutoring"?
An individualized course provides each student with transferable skills that they can apply to ALL future academic and professional work
In other words, as the saying goes: "Give a person a fish, and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime."
In an individualized course, sessions include both:
Targeted skill instruction (example topics below) via custom-designed "extracurricular" assignments
Assignment-based tutoring (school assignments, summer work, and/or admissions essays) based on family priorities
Course topics include but are not limited to:
Academic Writing
Reading Comprehension
Writing for School Admissions
Foundational Academic Skills
Executive Functioning Coaching
Examples of custom-designed "extracurricular" assignments:
Preparation and submission of writing pieces to contests and publications such as the New York Times student essay contests & the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (see this curated list of opportunities)
"Extension" reading, research & writing projects based on school units in history, English, or science
"Just for fun" reading, research, and writing assignments about students' passions, such as sports, arts, or pets
A course may also include any combination of skill targets to suit a student's particular needs
